A thin line connects each dimension, each world, each human, animal and plant. These lines all connect and form the nexus web - that maintains, sustains and creates life energy. The life energy flows from the Nexus World and death energy flows back in to it to be reborn again.

This never ending cycle has come under threat and the spirit energy of the Nexus World needs help. Those who wish to destroy the Nexus Web and pull apart the seams of the dimensions and worlds have inadvertently given the Nexus hope. By attempting to change the very essence of the web, souls sometimes get pulled inside and attracted to the Nexus World.

As these souls do not belong naturally to the Nexus World, they reawaken and find themselves in a Temple.

Those of the Nexus World all feed the web with life energy via copulation and for the newcomers, the same is asked of them. However, the Temple Elders all understand that these newcomers did not arrive here by their own will as those who lived here previously did. They, therefore, created a reward system that if enough life energy could be created in their central and pivotal world, they would sacrifice the energy required to send them back.

If your character does not want to feed the life energy, they can still carve out a happy existence in the Nexus without pressure to give a helping hand.

what does this mean for my character?

Your character has fallen afoul of the unexpected side-effect of The Brethren's attack on the Nexus Web. Whether they came directly from their home world or took a little side trip to a new world along the way, your character will be sucked in to the cycle of life and death and travel to the heart of all worlds - The Nexus.

Arriving at the first world, the newcomer is identified as being one who was pulled here rather than choosing it after a death and they will be looked after and given some choices. Where to live, whether to aid the Temples, whether to go forth and find employment - the only thing they cannot do is send you home voluntarily. That is up to the Web and the Web alone.
